I have given up on "saving fast with fives" as that project is too long term for me. Putting money aside on one hand and then scraping the bottom of the pot with the other hand is not a logical plan. So ya, I've scrapped that plan. However, I am still putting all the $5 notes aside, and will stop counting them, so when November comes, I will just go and buy whatever I fancy for myself for my birthday with whatever amount I've put aside with those green notes. I deserve that.
(always say that but end up always spend on the kids rather than myself)
