Mandarin Revision - May 2013

She's so funny. She took over the bow and said that it was my turn to read aloud.
So I obliged. I pretended to mis-read one of the words and she started all over again! So strict!
I pretended to bargain and she said - "no, you loose (lost) so you have to start from beginning"
I'm glad that she's taking this as a game. More fun this way isn't it?

Licking

Of late, her people are always having the tongue sticking out. She says they're licking the lips.

She says they are wearing T-shirts.

Beautiful Sunday (and Saturday)

 Colin's "fake" - Cheese!
 and a forced smile.

After violin, we went for dinner at 313 Sommerset

She's into "my little pony" now, to her delight, I've bought her a new set of pony with a unicorn. (on a separate note, insisted that I get her the smiley pin from crocs,, not that we own any croc sandals)

Shopping at Paragon. (Hat from H&M,,, it's an adult, men's hat actually.. but well, she looks cool with it, so you can see my very casual style of parenthood har?)

Some encouraging results

This week, Kiki could play the violin to the tune of "Twinkle, twinkle, little star", albeit still brash and calls for lots of polishing, we are very delighted there's a breakthrough after many fortnights of tears.
The resistance she had stemmed from the inability to play the verses in sequence and it took a lot of encouragement in order to press on. Because I'm having a break from school the past two weeks, I made a point to practise with her for 10 minutes a night, and this is how it finally bore fruits.

Today, I received another encouraging news, I've scored a distinction for one of my essays! (82 marks)
Well, this module is one of the easiest one, I suppose.... nevertheless, I am very glad that my hard work paid off. Here's my lecturer's comments:-

Feedback:General Comments

An essay which is to a very high academic standard - excellent engagement with theory and an good level of academic rigour. Good writing style. There are one or two small gaps - such as motivation could have been developed further.

It's curious why you termed Branson as Dr. Jekyll and O'Leary as Mr. Hyde as this is labelling them unjustly and pigeon-holes them as if one is good and the other bad.

Excellent work, however - well done!.

All rolled into one

 http://www.sscnet.ucla.edu/polisci/faculty/chwe/austen
the idea of Jane Austen being an unsung game theorist, some 200 odd years ago is written in a book.
I'm planning on getting the book after reading the classics below.

 meet Rayme (white) and Brownie.
she cares for their meals and told me to - "please feed them if they are hungry and give them water if they are thirsty."

Colin looks so much like Rachael (in the photo below)

On the way to Mandarin class, Sunday.

We read a book and it has a "Albatross". She asked me what's an Albatross, and I normally will google to show her a picture. Then she told me it is similar to "Puffin". which is in her words : "black-and-white like a Penguin but not a Penguin, has feet like ducks but not a duck, and Flies under water".
I thought she was mistaken to describe it flying under water but when I wiki searched it, indeed Puffin's swimming technique is a flying motion under water!   Where did she learn this from? I asked.
Go, Diego, go! (Dora's cousin) the cartoon series. wow. That's educational! Haha.

Been practising the violin more often now that I am having a 6-weeks school break.
Don't know why I feel even busier than school days, I hope for a slower pace please.

 This is depiction of Pinocchio
the one below is an Alien  (with a third eye??)

we were reading this book that has no storyline but just key words.
i commented that i wasn't too sure if they (the mother and baby) visited the neighbour's or the neighbour came over. (because the mother (in red) looks more relaxed, like at her own home). kiki thought for a while and said that they went to the neighbour's because the family portraits on the wall are the neighbour's family. wow, i'm impressed by her observation.

Mother's Day 2013

The school is thoughtful to aid the kids in making handicrafts for the mothers.
I wore the choker the whole day on Mother's day.
Kiki was so funny, she told me one morning last week-- "I have a surprise for you in 5 days time, a mother's day surprise".  Ha ha.
