27th Feb 2011, Sunday

There was a man sleeping near his tent. Kiki said - Shhh..... (telling us to keep quiet cos the guy's asleep).

We have not gone to the beach for about 4 weeks. Mainly due to being busy over CNY.

Kiki misses playing with the sand and picking up leaves. We'll resume the routine in no time.

First Wives Club

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJmRAieU9AI

Last Saturday, I channel surfed and caught this on TV.

For a second, I was taken aback. Because the show (cast) looked so,,,, dated.
I've watched this movie on disc for a dozen times before and I've even taped this song "You don't own me" on audio. For whatever reasons, I found it inspirational.

First Wives Club (1996)
(Sarah Jessica Parker once said that the three dynamic leads had such huge personas that no body even remembers she had a role in the movie too)

So anyway, the movie is really more about friendship. And how the three women got onto each other nerves, whacked at each other, and embraced each other with renewed strength.

Kiki sings bits of Old MacDonald Had a Farm.

Once, we couldn't help laughing..

She sang "E-I-E-I-O.... and....Dog, dog here, dog, dog there"

Happy Valentine's

Pies

We've been watching all the cooking channels on cable and every time, I wished I could cook like them. Or at least, I really like to cook for my family.
You know, I think the cooking channels are just hypnothizing. Even if you do nothing but sit in front of the TV to watch it, you can sit there for hours.
I wonder what's their charm. They are like sell-a-vision.

So anyway, I made some pies this morning and they were really nice.
First- I boiled some potatoes & carrots, mash them, add salt & butter. (always butter!)
Ground pepper.
Line the foil trays with the mashed mix. Add prawns, cheese.
Cover it with the mashed mix.
(before you line the trays, pre-heat the oven at 255 degC for 10 mins and continue the bake for 30 mins)

TA-DAAA!

All golden brown and was very tasty.
Success!

CNY - 2O11 day 9

In celebration of the Chinese New Year, her school put up a casual skit and invited all parents to gather at the foyer nearby on Friday evening (11th Feb).
Kiki sat among the audience as she was not performing. (she's attending class only for half a day and the performers are full time students as there are many rehersals throughout the day I suppose)

But she couldn't sit still and walked up to a father who was filming his kid's performance.

And then she walked to another Ang Moh father to view into his camera's screen.

CNY - 2O11 day 9

Slowly, she inched closer to her friends.

And suddenly, she sprinted towards her friends and stood in-line and danced! Shook her hips and shoulders! Clapped.

Many parents roared with laughter.
We were just too shocked to react and were totally amused by her enthusiasm.
What a performance. Not bad, considering she didn't practise.
Fortunately, I captured the moment on video. You could see that she was initially supporting her friends by being a cheering audience and suddenly, she couldn't contain her excitement and sprang up to join her friends. I guess she truly felt she ought to be with them.

Hands & Feet

I found this among the recycle-paper pile and decided to keep it because I like this piece. It was done impromptu and since then, Kiki would give me her foot to do an outline of it everytime we have the crayons and paper in hand.

She says- "Feet" whenever she sees this.

That's also her hand in mine.

CNY - 2O11 day 2

It is our company's tradition to visit the office on CNY day 2. It is symbolic to show up at work on that day as a gesture for prosperous business the whole year through.
I've done this for the sixth time already.
Only this time, we had a themed attire, which was fun.
Many people were amused and asked where I've got the identical clothing from.

CNY - 2O11 day 2

Day two- at my mom's place and later went to Aunt Magaret's.

Shoes

She's always putting on our shoes these days.

CNY - 2O11 day 4

Day four, we went to Granny's place and also to Aunt Elsie's.

Kiki - School

Kiki started Playgroup in December 2010.
She took about 4 weeks to settle in.
Initially, she cried every day and was afraid to go to school. But now, she loves school so much she wants to play some more.
We let her attend for only half a day in the morning as I prefer to let her have other activities also. Like watching TV, go to the gym, go for her evening walks etc.

Toys

I bought this Mickey Mouse Pot in 1996 at the then Lane Crawford when it had its outlet at Wheelock Place before it closed its doors. All my toys can become heirloom for Kiki, they are all of so much value, at least sentimentally.

These are from Toys-r-us. I wanted to buy the other set that had healthier food- a variety of veggies, but that frying pan was in an unrealistic colour: Electric-Blue. Who has a pan in that kind of blue.

So I ended up buying a more realistic set which was kind of junk food...... -_-"

Neighbours

My mom bought this little Hawaiian dress for her.
My sis bought her a Mickey Mouse watch and
my friend Iresh gave us the Little Tikes table that she had been using for over 15 years (!)

Kiki yearns for playmate. Not just any person but she seems to develop her personal selection process. She particularly likes this neighbour's grand daughter and led her by the hand to come into our house to play. Unfortunately, the little girl had to go home and Kiki errupted in tears... all of us were a little shocked.
(children don't hide their disappointments well.)

CNY - 2O11 (prelude)

Reunion Dinner is with my mom, sis, Bren, Kiki and Maricar last Sunday 30th Jan

We had
  1. carrot-potato soup with abalone

  2. cabbage with mushroom

  3. fried guo tie (dumplings)

  4. steam dumplings

  5. cod fish

  6. liqueur chocolates

Kiki refused her regular meal, she wanted to eat whatever we were having at the table.

So she ended up having only fish, potatoes, carrots & cabbage.
