Movie Apps

There are a few movie / drama channel  Apps at the Appstore that I've just came across. They offer mainly Chinese / Taiwan / Korean / Hong Kong, drama series & movies. They do have some English movies & dramas but the newer shows are not accessible. You've got to be a paid subscriber to access newer shows.

Anyway, for me, as long as the movies run on wifi, it's a bonus.

Randomly clicked on some posters and I came across this Taiwanese movie (2012 production).
Okay lah, Rom-com (romance comedy / comedy romance)

They story is about a chap, he had a girlfriend who left him one day, with a post it note, to say that she has left him for travelling. This chap has no direction in his life. He just lazes around, basically eat, sleep, girlfriend, like that. So anyway, he does not understand why his GF left him and he waited for her return. Days turned into weeks, weeks into months and months into years. Eventually, he was kicked out from his rental room, and for a very long time, he tries to call his ex-GF until eventually her phone number was given up.

He found work at a copier shop, photocopying examination papers for a tuition centre nearby. As his job is rather mundane, one time, he spotted a doodle (of a Sheep) on one of the pages. Slowly, he discovers that there were more doodles, somewhat like a series of thoughts and quotes. One day, he "doodled back"  with a character of a Wolf. And so the doodling correspondences began.

He eventually discovers who this doodler is and they became friends. This girl, it seems like she was waiting for someone but he has no idea who. She tells him about the passing of her mother when she was young, and how she copes with "waiting" by counting to a hundred. If the person doesn't appear, then she lets it go. Like her mom did not wake up despite her counting to 100. This chap, he was afraid to count. Because he was afraid that when he reaches 100, his ex-GF may not reappear in his life and that might mean he has to move on with his life.

Anyway, there was a day, he realised that the Sheep lady was leaving. Where to he does not know. In his desperate attempt, he mobilized the student community to throw a paper plane at an appointed time, hoping that a paper plane would reach the Sheep lady.

mobilized paper plane throwing on the street but the the Sheep lady had no idea of the chaos behind her.
 THEN!!! THE EX-GIRLFRIEND APPEARS!!!

GOSH!!!! his prayers are answered, but WHO DOES HE CHOOSE NOW?!!!

 Pretty Ex

 He stares in disbelief

 Yes?  She asks.

They exchanged greetings and he realizes he doesn't matter to her and she doesn't matter as much to him anymore.

Finally, Sheep lady catches one.

Waiting for my book

Well, not 'mine' exactly, it's from our NLB.  Hasn't arrived as I've understood this book had just been published last month. But its reservation has already started and I'm second in line....

This lady-- Min Kym, is a child prodigy. She had her violin stolen right under her nose at a cafe  in London when she was in transit and was taking a snack & coffee break. Normally, she has the straps of the violin case strapped around one of her legs while she sat down and ate, but on that fateful day, her then boyfriend, persuaded her to eat at ease and she handed him the violin case which they had placed it near their seats. The thing is, that violin cost $1.2million in British pound. Plus, the case contained two other bows, one cost $32K (GBP) and another 'cheap' bow at $5K (GBP).
Of course Kym broke into a panic fit when she discovered the violin was missing. An island-wide hunt and investigation pursued for weeks and months but nothing reliable turned up despite a reward for information. Heavy criticism were laden upon Kym, mainly criticizing her carelessness. It was a terrible time for Kym and she fell into depression.

Fast forward 3 years on, the acclaimed violin was found.

However, having gone through the crisis and saga, Kym no longer feels the same for the violin nor her music.

She shares with us in her book, her journey from having lost her violin and how her life fell apart and fall back together again. She says she owes it to herself to speak up and to give her account of the saga as there had been too many avenues voicing their authorities over the incident and everyone has something to comment about her life.

And so, I wait.

Trying, trying still

Talked about "Trying".... went to our canteen for lunch.
Chicken Rice & Cabbage Fish Ball Soup.
I could have just taken Cabbage Soup with Rice but I didn't....
I had succumbed to the fragrant, enticing meat dish.

I need to be more conscientious with this.

Pam introduced me the Atomy products.
So far I've used the herbal shampoo, which I am satisfied with.
Now I'm testing out the hair tonic (hair regrowth & strengthener for hair roots & scalp) as well as various home & body products.

This is not a romance, this is purely friendship.

Voice App

School's out! Yay, can sleep in a little longer.

There's this App called "iFly", recommended by my sis. That App is so value-add!
You can speak into your phone's mic, and the text will auto-type. Both in English and Chinese.
Best still, can compose notes, emails, etc. Save your time from punching the keyboard.

Chinese Movies

Entitled: Beijing Meets Seattle: Book of Love: Finding Mr. Right 2.
北京遇上西雅圖 2

My eyes are so tired after crying over the movie.
No biggie lah. Hardship is not a unique thing, it's just plain unlucky as Warren Buffett puts it (he says that he receives tonnes of letters regularly from people asking for money from him. he says that generally, those people are of two traits. the first group are people who were stricken with sickness. or that they have family members who were stricken with illness. hence they were laden with debts or responsibilities.  the second group of people are those who over-spent and they have a chronic habit of over-spending. so anyway, never mind what he had said, he says that the group of people who has got medically sick family members etc, basically it's plain unlucky and that perhaps society could help take care of the medical aspect so that the other healthy family members would not be laden and that they could then pursue their aspirations with their work and skills. the second group of people prone to getting into debt should just know that instead of getting ahead of the game, they are putting themselves behind and that they may never be able to catch up or be free from debt.)

Anyway, about the movie. It's a comedy romance about two persons exchanging letters, first starting out annoyed at each other but gradually learned to empathize with the other.

The movie was made as a 100th year tribute to Helene Hanff (American playwright) and Frank Doel (London bookseller) who had kept a 20-year mail correspondence with each other. I do not know if they fell in love, it looks like it. Anyway, I will borrow that book and try to figure out their story.

Ending Contract

6 months contract with the Taxi company is coming to an end.
We should be switching to another Taxi company that can offer a cheaper rental price.
At $131 per day, it is very tough to drive the whole day and make so little money.
Already at promotion rental rate $77, it has been so tough (as in mental energy to be driving for prolonged hours). Hopefully, things will pick up soon enough.

3D cube puzzle from Daiso

She says for about 2 hours, she had tried very hard to fix the puzzle to no avail.

She eventually gave up and began watching TV while she meddled around with the puzzle nonchalantly.  And that's when she fixed it.

Being left handed, Colin couldn't see the text to be copied as his left hand would block the text. So we improvised a little and I showed him how to copy from above while he writes on the space below.

Fidget

I keep calling them "Fidget" and she keeps reminding me "Spinner".

When you have kids, you will always remember that 2017 = Fidget Spinners.

Kiki & Colin didn't persuade me to buy them the fad toy, I bought them on my own accord because I want to test that gadget out and see if I could balance the stuff, which I am able to lah, on all fingers but on the left hand, the pinkie and ring finger require more practise. Generally, on the non-dominate hand, it took more conscious effort to focus, so I think it's good training for my brains.

Next I will learn to transfer the spinning gadget from thumb to thumb, finger to finger. My goal is to be able to hop the gadget from one hand to the other. Fun right?

I say, it ain't 2017 if you ain't spinning. Haha.

Not bad for a first try =)

This is me at the pool (waiting) Click on the short clip to watch how it spins (boomerang)

This is Kiki doing the "Transfer" Spin
Her fingers are smaller, hence easier.
