To the dearth of acquaintance

okay, this pot of chrysanthemum tea is to commemorate the end of acquaintance of two of my work friends. they don't work in the same department but the three of us had been having lunch once a week for the past few months. most of the time, the two of them cross swords with words because the two of them are quite strongly opinionated. however, two weeks back, they argued over a pot of chrysanthemum tea while we were lunching at a restaurant. i was at the washroom so i didn't witness their fight but when i got to our table, they were both not talking. one of them wanted only warm water, the other suggested a pot of chrysanthemum. they couldn't agree on the sweetness of the tea, hence their argument. the thing is, my girlfriend took offense that my male colleague had told her off so loudly, and in front of the server. she says that no cultured person fights in public. so she doesn't want to go out with him anymore. my male colleague on the other hand, had felt that he had been always giving in, and he also said that he wouldn't want to spend his time like that.

for me, i've realised that the friendship between them was not there in the first place. so they must have felt that they were both giving in to each other much more than the other. well, at least they have tried to compromise for several months but decided to call it quits. so now, i have to lunch with them, separately.
