Chong Wen Ge, Pernakan Tiles Gallery & Heritage Cafe

Chong Wen Ge, Pernakan Tiles Gallery & Heritage Cafe at 168 Telok Ayer Street.

Tien Hock Keng Temple. (Ma Chou Keng)

Our manufacturer's technician is back here in Singapore after a few months. Our repair jobs had gotten fewer, hence.

Anyway, I remember him being head-over-heels with the Peranakan tiles, so when I learned of this cafe, I suggested to my colleague that we bring him there. Boy, was he blown away! He was in awe and couldn't stop saying that he could have spent the whole day there, in the small gallery. Tile after tile, he admired. He said he wanted to cry when he discovered that the USD10 tiles he had paid online (on ebay and esty) cost only SGD2.50 (remake). He exclaimed "each!" "in Sing!" (S$) Judging by his mock distraught, he must have bought many tiles for his kitchen floor! LOL. He was stunned to learn that the tiles he bought were remake and not original. Well, he didn't know there were original ones to begin with, so it was just pattern tiles for him. The ones that he fell in love with at the gallery were, as mentioned by the owner; "rare" and "very rare". so they were like S$600 per piece. (will need four or six in a series). He was having a meltdown. LOL.

Teh-C with gula malaka (nice) $6.80 for novelty

only the nine-layered rainbow kueh is nice. (the rest normal)
dunno price.

Laksa. Hum..... not the lemak type, more like thick curry but not spicy nor fragrant.
Not pipping hot too. Seems to me the cafe doesn't have a kitchen. More like food served from cooker hot pot. I think it was $10.80? price for novelty of the place.
