Just Listening

Last night, I went to a free-talk on Venture Capitalists (Map of the Money), just to listen to what other people are doing. Hum........ lots of Startups asking for money, some have raised funds, some are still trying. Lots of jargon and lots of ang mohs and foreigners coming to Singapore as a platform to raise funds. And many are hoping to turn into a Unicorn (slang for a start up valued over $1Billion).

I wanted to see what's behind the scene, especially with news like Karhoo App going burst after raising US$250 million (!) and other recent news like the following excerpts from straitstimes.com, Nov 2nd 2016:--

SINGAPORE - E-commerce platform Lazada has acquired RedMart, the Singapore online grocer backed by billionaire Facebook Inc co-founder Eduardo Saverin.

The companies declined to disclose the financial details of the deal, though news site TechCrunch had earlier quoted sources saying the acquisition was priced at between US$30 million (S$42 million) and US$40 million.

RedMart, founded in 2011, was among the first in the region to launch an online grocery store. In September, Bloomberg reported that the company was seeking a buyer, and had reached out to a number of potential suitors including supermarket chain NTUC FairPrice.

Nice scenery, nice ambiance at Fullerton Bay, I wanna go to the restaurants there.

Other courses but I think these are too technical for me...........
