I Love Yoon

So, as we were walking & chatting,

Kiki said to me: "Mommy, I love yoon."

I replied: "Thank you."

She was puzzled. She asked: "Do you know what 'Yoon' means?"

I replied: "Yes"

Kiki: "What?"

I answered: "It means '您' ".

Kiki: "How did you even guessed it!? Yes, I love yoon means 我爱您!"

It's her self-invented word "Yoon" and I guessed it correctly.
No wonder they say Mothers know all.
LOL........

Sundays with Colin

Set out in the morning.

Thought Colin might like the pancakes from Dutch Baby Cafe.

 Yay, he loves it.

Setting out on foot to visit my Childhood home.

The distance looked shorter now that I'm a grown up. It took no more than 10 mins to walk there from Paragon.

This is where we used to buy our daily loaf of bread.
The top of the bread usually was burnt.

Me getting a little anxious as we approach my old house.
Well, when I was young, I used to think that I was Oliver Twist.
How else to pacify my hunger pangs when I couldn't sleep?

Ta-da! 106 Cairnhill Road. How are you?

From your upkeep, I'd say you're doing grand ya?

106 Cairnhill Road, I show you my boy-- Colin.

Half the time there, I was hoping it's new owner would come out and invite us in.
Then I might ask to engage a social project where I bring all my cousins & aunts there for a hospitality visit. After all, it has been what---- 32 years since we left there (1985). Inside me, I think I might like my 3rd Grand Aunt to visit there before she leaves Earth. She was the anchor tenant while my uncles & aunts co-rented the house. I think it would be nice to say a proper good-bye, even though it may appear to be just a house, it is not just a house. My aunts & uncles lived there for 20 years while I lived there for 12. It is not just a house, it is a house with too much stories.

The house next door, is where my Dad used to work.
It was a grocery shop and my Dad used to make grocery delivery to the houses nearby on his trusty, old fashioned China bicycle.

After that, it was back to normal world--- Toys!

Tomica has a Pikachu Pokemon car and Colin wants one.

See Pikachu race down Suntec

the usual scenery while heading home.

Saturday 18th March

Morning, my 2-hour wait while she has Mandarin class. Finishing my tweenage book.

 City Hall

 Attended a community fun-fare

Face painting, "Spotty" she says that was her name.

Secret Life of Pets- LED screening at our neighbourhood.
The sound system was very good, the volume could reach half a kilometer all round.
Good thing it started early and ended by 8.45pm.

Kiki noticed a scene where a bus ad displayed a Sing! poster. I went on the web to search about this, true enough, there was an Ad Poster of Sing! that was planted in one of Secret Life's scenes.

When we first watched Secret Life, Sing! wasn't out yet. So of course that little, imbed snippet of teaser did not mean anything. Now that we've watched Sing!, this little teaser is amusing.

Kiki has sharp eyes, I didn't even noticed it.

Friday Nights

Old friend called up at the last minute for catch-up. He had 2 hours to kill before he has to meet his client at the airport. So he thought of me since about a month ago he bumped into me at Katong I12 when I was going to watch a movie on a Tuesday. He looked at me with pitiful eyes when he learned that I was going to the movies by myself. I really don't understand what the deal is; I am very happy to do things by myself because most of my activities are unplanned. Anyway, he remembers about catching up so we met for a drink and talked cock etc. For sure I do not like Whiskeys. So spicy. I prefer Brandy and I prefer Cognac most of all.

So anyway. My friend commented that had he known that raising a child is so tough, he would not have chosen to have a child. He says all women were duped by other women's cuddly, lovable babies at baby showers and friends' gatherings hence bought the idea to give birth.

I said how could he be saying that, and I asked him to relax lah!

All the ferrying to and fro classes for his boy (piano, speech & drama, math, kindergarten, swimming) weighed heavily in the form of physical tiredness. He says he & his wifey doesn't talk much except on stuff about the kid. There is no dating, no romance, no nothing. He says many of his friends have divorced and he asked me not to say it was a trend. He thinks all the 爱情 in the world will eventually become 亲情.

I said I can understand how it happens, the daily grind of life can take away the joy of life. That is why we have to be aware of it.

I asked him not to over-worry about his child, and not to overload him because honestly, whatever you are interested in, you can develop the aptitude for it. Of course if you were born with certain high aptitudes then lucky you if that is also your interest. But if you have no outstanding aptitude, you can always learn if you are keen. The keyword in life, for me, is --"Earnest".  Be earnest in something, anything. Don't have to worry about how you would fare or appear to others. If you have chronic "Monday Blues", that will be a problem. Actively change your life till you are absolved from Monday Blues. That is the least we must do for ourselves.

Small Habits

Oriental Burger

Due to late night, I slept in late and we ordered McMuffins via drive through and had our breakfast separately because I had to clock in my staff pass by 8.30am. On Monday I was already 3 mins late, so there is this unseen pressure to be punctual.

The clock-watching culture here makes us feel like factory workers.
1 minute late and your attendance will be printed in red and you will have to indicate your attendance as 'late' and this will constitute to your work behaviour.

When times were good, these kind of monitoring procedures were not enforced.
When times became tough, all sorts of rules resurface.
It's so passé

Incidentally, the Cook gave me a Kong Bak Pau (Braised Pork Bun) so I ended up with quite a heavy breakfast. (Plus a Banana to help with the fiber).

Recent Foodie

I asked to be excused from the dinner gathering as they wanted to have Thai Food.
However, after learning of my condition, they changed location to accommodate my restricted diet.
I ate very little because firstly, Food is secondary.
Gatherings are for the company, the people you can laugh aloud with, or share your woes with.

Salted egg Pork Cutlets. (nice, I ate just one, smallest piece)

Claypot Mee Teh Mak (Rat Noodle)
Clip of claypot mee teh mak

 Red Grouper Fish Steamboat (nice)
Next time, can ask for soup refill. We didn't know until the night was over.

 Green Dragon Veggies.
I think it's a kind of hybrid vegs.

炸蛋蚝
Deep Fried Egg (slang - Bomb) + Oysters
