Chinese Books

I asked Kiki how do they go about reading in class; does the teacher grade students after each person reads the book aloud?  Kiki explains that first, the student will have to read in front of everyone (combine classes K1 & K2), then the K2 students will review how the reader fared and vote on the number of "stars" to award, hence peer learning. I am glad she gets such reading & comprehension sessions.

Colin at Mandarin

Colin has been attending the Chinese class for three weeks now.
He doesn't want to attend it by himself and would cry until you can hear him ten floors under.
So that is really no good for him..... and we sneaked Maricar in to the classroom. As long as there is a familiar presence, Colin calms down and he is actually very interested in the lessons. (If not, I would have stopped the class, regardless refund or otherwise).
So anyway, with each passing week, we hope the boy will gain security and independence.
Yesterday, after the lesson, I asked Maricar if Colin was okay in class.
She said yes, he said "Ya, Ya" to the teacher.
I said, no, Colin. Say "Yes", not Ya, Ya!
Maricar explained in zest -- Maam, Ya is teeth, Ya!
LOL. Ya,,, the Chinese word Ya, they are learning Eyes, Nose, Teeth, etc. I see.

I will be contented if she could recognise the new Chinese words but she went further and surprised me by incorporating the memory card game concept with the Chinese flash cards.

If you were to test me and ask me to flip to the correct word as you read, I think at best I could mange is to remember the ones at the corners or maybe a few more on the borders, the rest of the words I will take a long time to memorise!

Kiki scored 49 out of 50 for her Chinese. I was very pleasantly surprised.
I find this question very sophisticated.
It says - "colour the "dot" stroke" (known as dian)
I am not too sure what's the other dot on the right....... is it dian or does it have another name?

This week, she learns "Shou" 手 (hand).

Sunday Mornings

So demure looking.
She learnt "er duo". One word per week and they make relevant handicrafts each time.
(A mask for "head", a crab for "eyes", rabbit ears for ears of course)
