Channelling Miss Sloane

Miss Sloane is my idol. (spelt Sloane but pronounced "soh" "lane")

She is a fictional figure but she is all of us (if you are one high powered woman).

Well, I know I am far from it but I simply like her.

I want to say I love her but I think I'm too shy to say that.

So I'd just stick with I like her very much.

Throughout the movie, she's addressed as "Miss Sloane" nonetheless.

Miss Sloane is always wearing navy blue & black power-suits so today I wore mine, it's not a power suit but it's blue nonetheless.

Nice Michael Kors dress today because got two important meetings.

漂亮吧?

Look at it another way, be free from old limitations.

an interesting read for a mathphobe like me.

i came across this by chance, it was on the display shelf when i went to the library to return the books i had borrowed.

i hesitated to borrow this but i thought i would better break free from that mathphobe mentality especially now that i'm 'growing' with KiCo.

very glad to be reading this interesting book.
i'll give you a summary after i finish the book.

Sundays with Colin

we invited the Papa to join us for breakfast since he was headed for work.

tanjong pagar centre is a new office complex, near the Tg Pagar MRT area.
most of the tenants there are japanese so it's not wrong to presume the developer is japanese.
they've got JTB (tour operator) there, they've got the japan rail restaurant there too.

 business card - Hattendo Cafe

11am opening hours, no crowd, hurray!

i chose matcha green tea flavour.
there were custard, fresh cream, sakura, chocolate flavours.

Colin reminded me that he wants to visit Gardens by the Bay for the Dinosaur display.
i asked him to navigate with the map.

 IPPUDO at mandarin gallery
333A Orchard Rd, #04-02/03/04, Mandarin Gallery, 238897

after dinner, we took a tour at the hotel. i told Kiki i used to work at that hotel. that was when i was 16. she asked how could i be working when i hadn't reached the age of 21. i said in the past, as long as you are 16 and have a CPF account, you could work. i am not sure if it's the same now. i think it should be. she asked if i worked at the check-in counter. i said no, that's the front desk, i didn't work there. i worked at the back-of-the-house, telephone operator. she asked how many phone operators were there. i said about 10 at any one time. she asked if the phones kept ringing. i said yes, the phones came in non-stop at all hours. i told her there's a standard greeting script and then you will have to pay attention to what the caller wants. sometimes they want to make a reservation at the restaurants eg: chatterbox or top of the M etc, sometimes they want to speak to a room guest, sometimes they want to book a room and sometimes they are fanatics trying to reach their favourite band residing at the Mandarin.  as we toured around, i realised that the main wing lobby is gone! they are left with the second wing for check-in, and where all the ballrooms used to be and main lobby used to be-- are all now boutiques. i think it's okay because retail boutiques & eateries will fetch more rental income for the hotel. anyway, as i walked around, i could still see the old pillars that are more or less the main structure of the hotel. many memories, i had an old friend (geraldine lin) who worked with me as telephone operator and i had another old pen-pal who worked at the front desk. after i got the job, i introduced them there and we all worked very happily while we waited for our O level results. i remember splurging half of my first pay cheque on a SONY walkman. it was the first ever slimmest walkman with matt material. so damn cool.

don't just watch and walk away.
buskers need money.

I don't like sarcasm.........

When we got home, it was late... like almost 11 pm.
Still, I was running through her enrichment class homework because there will be class the next morning and she has to hand this up. She said she wasn't sure of the answers and asked me to view.
But she was so tired after showers, she fell asleep (on top of all my pillows and blanket!)

Anyway, this Comprehension paragraph is a terrible story.
Why are they putting sarcasm in a kid's story?   I think I have a good sense of humour, sometimes even twisted, but still, I do not like these kinds of sarcastic intents to be given to children. I will give my feedback to the Teacher when I next meet her.

I don't think I should be apologetic for this... I really don't like sarcasm. Ever especially when it comes to talking to children. I feel a bit over-protective because I feel that children have yet to have the mental-emotional skills to filter sarcasm and to either reflect upon the indirect feedback or to decipher if it was meant to belittle or to manipulate. These kinds of stuff they will sooner or later learn, it is not necessary to put it in an assignment.

Furthermore, the article threw shade at aspiring artist and discredited hard work . I do understand that not all hard work leads to proficiency or even any breakthrough, but there is no need to make an example at someone else expense. Bad taste.

I don't even know if the answer is (2) or (3). It could be either.
The more cynical answer would be (2) but why wanna teach them these?

Friday Night @ iLight Festival 2017

Friday, after work, we took our usual bus to town, passing by the Marina Bay Waterfront.
We were visiting the iLight 2017 Art Installation at the waterfront with my sis.

Kiki's having a slightly loose bottom incisor, it is painful but she doesn't wanna visit the dentist.
She says she had surveyed her classmates, only three persons (including herself) has got eight adult teeth. A handful of more than 10 persons have lost 2 to 4 baby teeth and many of the rest have not even lost one baby tooth!

Behold! This  beautiful sight!

 And another.

Looks like some Persian weaved patterns

we did not enter the Art Zoo Inflatable Park though..... If we did, we might have spent over an hour in there, plus $15 X four tickets......
we did go to another inflatable bouncy castle, that was $10 for 15 mins. my sis bargained for two pax and the operator accommodated.

 Other Light installations.

Huge water bottle structures made from empty Evian water bottles... $3 retail price per bottle. I hope Evian sponsored the artist.

 Umbrellas

Kiki says the four fangs in Merlion's mouth represents our four races.

after a while, they were scared of the Alien

we were lucky to find the remote controllers idling around. the owner didn't mind letting the kids play with his collection. he was not an artist at the exhibition, he just brought his toys to let the public have some fun.
